VICTORIOUS, SEASON 1, VOLUME 2
Release date: November 1, 2011
As with a lot of shows on Nickelodeon, I end up watching them because my kids watch them, and “Victorious” is one of those shows. As a result of having it on for hours in the background, I love it! The shows are funny and clever, the characters are likeable, and likably freaky. There’s the dark and sometimes sinister Jade, there’s Robbie who is rarely seen without his ventriloquist’s dummy, Cat is lite on intelligence.
The most “normal” of the characters, Tori Vega (Victoria Justice), heads the cast, and together they all attend the prestigious Hollywood Arts High.
Just because this series is aimed at teens or tweens, doesn’t mean it writes DOWN to them. It means you can let your kids watch this, without fear of inappropriate content that most of today’s grown-up television shows seem to have. But don’t feel you must be exciting about your upcoming prom to enjoy “Victorious.” My young sons, six and nine years old, both love it. I’ve got friends my age who also enjoy the escape of good, wholesome television.
The show is created and executive-produced by Dan Schneider. Those of us who are, ahem, long past our teens, might remember him as the rather round character of Dennis in Head of the Class. After stepping behind the camera, Dan also created other Nickelodeon hits such as “iCarly,” “Drake & Josh,” “The Amanda Show” and others.
There are ten episodes on this second volume of Season One. In one, the students reluctantly form a band to perform at a kids party… as directed by their appropriately named, delightfully psychotic drama teacher, Sikowitz.
In addition to the episodes are a few decent BONUS FEATURES:
An entire 90 minute special episode of the Nick series “iCarly” is on here. In “iPARTY WITH VICTORIOUS,” (1:09:46) the cast of both series’ come together for the first time in an intertwining story, linked together by the two-timing boyfriend of Carly and Tori. This episode also features Nickelodeon alumnus Kenan Thompson from the series “All That” and “Kenan and Kel.”
iPARTY WITH VICTORIOUS MASH-UP PERFORMANCE (1:23) This minute and a half piece goes behind the scenes to focus on the big production number in which the two casts “mash up” their two theme songs for an all-new version.
Nick viewers will recognize the MUSIC VIDEO “MY BEST FRIEND’S BROTHER” (3:37). This original version of this song appeared in the second season episode, “Prom Wrecker,” which we’ll hopefully see on a season two DVD release!
