LEMONADE MOUTH
Release date: May 24, 2011
“Lemonade Mouth” is the newest smash hit Disney Channel Original Movie. There’s been nothing sour about the reception it’s received from fans, in fact, through DVR playback viewings alone, it’s gained another 1.5 millions total viewers. Amongst 6-14 year olds, it is the #1 TV movie of 2011.
The “Lemonade Mouth” soundtrack once again is in the top 5 on the Billboard 200!
So what makes “Lemonade Mouth” so popular? Obviously a good story and
great acting is essential, but I believe the success is largely due to
the realism in the characters, which I’m sure makes it easier for young
viewers to relate to. These aren’t the most popular kids in school,
these aren’t the all-star jocks and the head cheerleaders, and they are
certainly not leading charmed lives.
The story begins with this ragtag group of teens in school detention.
The group includes shy Olivia, portrayed by Disney Channel starlet Bridget Mendler (“Good Luck, Charlie”), dealing with life after the death of her mother and with her father in jail. There’s Wen (Adam Hicks), who is dealing with the struggle and embarrassment of having his father dating a much younger lady. Mo (Naomi Scott) is dealing with the pressures of living under the thumb of a very strict father. Then there’s Charlie (Blake Michael), the cool drummer, who constantly finds himself compared to his all-star soccer brother. Strong-willed Stella (Hayley Kiyoko) has moved to the town and is furious about it. The angry and rebellious student is not afraid to stand up for what she believes in, even if it means starting a ruckus.
After meeting in detention, the group gradually realizes their shared musical connection and belief that it's time for the students of Mesa High to stand up and be heard on things big and small (ranging from the school Principal's exclusive support of the athletic programs to the removal of the popular organic lemonade from the cafeteria). Ultimately, as they open up to each other and form friendships, they start a band -- Lemonade Mouth -- that soon resonates with students sidelined by the high school elite. However, not everyone in the school is ready to cheer them on, especially since the popular rock group Mudslide Crush is determined to maintain their headline status and win the coveted Rising Star music competition.
The DVD is limited on BONUS FEATURES:
At the end of this “extended edition” of the film, is a final scene which did not air on the television broadcast. This scene takes place after the film’s conclusion and features a musical performance of the song “Livin’ on a High Wire.”‖
Playing the film with the ROCK-ALONG option presents onscreen lyrics for the musical numbers, but interestingly, there is not an option to play the songs separately from the movie or to navigate directly to any of the ten songs.
Although the EXCLUSIVE SCENE (5:30) appears in the Bonus Features menu, it is the same scene that appears at the conclusion of the movie.
Hope this has proven fruitful in letting you know what’s on the “Lemonade Mouth” DVD.
