OCEANS
DVD release date: October 16, 2010
Blu-ray version (some materials may not appear on the DVD version)

The latest “wave” of DisneyNature films is now available with “Oceans” and “Crimson Wing.”

In the grand tradition of Disney films depicting authentic nature, “Oceans” will constantly leave you scratching your heads wondering, “How the heck did they get that shot on camera?” The photography is just stunning as it captures the beautiful, the graceful, the wild and the weird underwater world.

There were even some sea creatures I have never heard of, despite considerable exposure to the world of oceanography. I was familiar with the sea dragon, but the marina iguana? That was news to me!

When I first got my blu-ray player, I was expecting the films to have more noticeable detail, greater resolution and incredible sharpness, and “Oceans” lends itself to the format so perfectly it’s as if blu-ray was created for this film.

The narration by Pierce Brosnan (former James Bond and “Remington Steele” star) is calm and peaceful, yet still educational and informative. This, coupled with a gorgeous musical score, keep this from feeling like a documentary as the story of the ocean sets sail before you.

BONUS FEATURES include:

DISNEY AND NATURE: CARING FOR THE WORLD WE SHARE (7:54) offers a brief history of Disney’s involvement in ecology and preserving the planet.

The music video features the song during the end credits of the film, MAKE A WAVE: DISNEY’S FRIENDS FOR CHANGE MUSIC VIDEO FEATURING JOE JONAS AND DEMI LOVATO.

Lastly, there’s the LIVING MENUS. Our blu-ray player is hooked up to the internet, which allows us to rotate the onscreen Earth, and click on the various hot spots around the world. These offer various popups of interesting text and even some new video footage. The menu states that this will change monthly!

Hope this info tides you over until you get “Oceans” in your video collection.
