TINKER BELL AND THE GREAT FAIRY RESCUE
DVD release date: September 21, 2010
Blu-ray version (some materials may not
appear on the DVD version)
“Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue” has flown on to DVD and Blu-ray, bringing faith, trust and hi-def pixie dust to your television.
This time around, Disney’s most iconic character gets captured by a nine year old human girl named Lizzie, the other fairies are off to rescue her.
It’s almost not fair to this movie to be direct-to-video, given the past reputation of non-theatrical releases, because both the quality of animation and the heartwarming story are really beautiful, and this could easily be a future film. Although the scenery and pixie dust lend themselves to high definition blu-ray perfectly.
It’s not fair to compare “Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy” to the Tink that first appeared in “Peter Pan.” Without getting into a debate between the original or new and improved Tink, this film should appease the diehard Tink fans by explaining that humans can’t hear her talk, but can only hear the sound of her little bells, employing the classic cartoon license which allows creatures to communicate in English amongst their own.
Here’s the BONUS FEATURES you’ll find on the Blu-ray version:
As to be expected, there’s a MUSIC VIDEO, and this time it’s HARD TO BELIEVE PERFORMED BY BRIDGIT MENDLER.
There’s a total of five DELETED SCENES, all of which can be viewed with informational introductions. Not just typical unnecessary scenes, some of these are little stories in themselves, and as always, it’s fun to see the various stages of the animation, with the final scene “Cat Attack” completely finished in full color.
In DESIGN A FAIRY HOUSE (1:51), director Bradley Raymond flew (by plane?) to Florida, and the Epcot Flower & Garden Festival, to watch how kids would make a fairy house and to meet the winner of the online contest, summoning youngsters to design their own fairy house.
The FAIRY FIELD GUIDE BUILDER is an extensive trivia game. After you answer questions correctly you see the pages of a “Fairy Field Guide” being put together. Upon completion of the game, you can sit back and watch the guide you’ve put together.
Lastly, there’s a sneak peek of TANGLED, which delves in deeper to the Disney’s next theatrical animated feature. I’ve had the opportunity to see this film almost completed and I was simply
blown away. It’s another timeless fairy tale that you’ve come to expect from Disney feature animation.
And here’s a treat for you. With all this talk about Tinker Bell, here’s my never-before-seen interview I did with the late Marc Davis, the legendary Disney animator who originally created her.
