THE LAST SONG
DVD release date: August 17, 2010
Blu-ray version (some materials may not
appear on the DVD version)
The Last Song is a romance novel come to life, dealing with young love, heartbreak, life and death. I found the story compelling, but largely due to an amazing cast. The portrayal of all the main characters were so so believable that it really made me care what happens to them.
I understand that Miley Cyrus’ character in Hannah Montana is intentionally comedic and over-the-top for that type of comedy, but this is no comedy. I just didn’t expect her superb acting in the starring role of Ronnie Miller. The believability of the rebellious teen who ends up finding romance and life’s difficult challenges made my heart go out to her. I was equally as impressed with Bobby Coleman in the role of Ronnie’s younger brother, Jonah. This kid can act!
In addition to AUDIO COMMENTARY with director Julie Anne Robinson and co-producer Jennifer Gibgot, here’s what you can expect in the BONUS FEATURES:
The film opens with a short sequence of a church fire, but much more was originally produced, and you can see that in ALTERNATE OPENING SEQUENCE: THE CHURCH FIRE (3 minutes)
There’s seven minutes of DELETED SCENES, five scenes that can be viewed both with or without commentary by director Julie Anne Robinson who gives a little insight into the scene and the reason it was cut.
The “WHEN I LOOK AT YOU” MUSIC VIDEO featuring Miley Cyrus is really a beautiful video, shot around the beach locations of the movie.
It’s interesting to see what went into that in the MAKING OF THE MUSIC VIDEO “WHEN I LOOK AT YOUR” WITH MILEY CYRUS (4 minutes). There’s some really great behind the scenes footage of the video, with those involved describing their contributions.
Look around the Blu-ray because there’s at least one Easter egg on there that I found. The one I found I just a cute little fifteen second piece.
My personal favorite of the bonus features is the SET TOUR WITH BOBBY COLEMAN (5 minutes). As impressed as I was with the acting ability of young Bobby Coleman, I was equally impressed with how unpretentious he appears in this short piece. The charismatic youngster plays host, wandering around the film locations, conducting short entertaining interviews with some of the lesser obvious crew members, and helping viewers learn what they do. It’s just a short piece, but quite interesting.
Hope the above information about The Last Song helped tune you in to what’s on the Blu-ray!
