TIM BURTON'S ALICE IN WONDERLAND
DVD release date: June 1, 2010
Blu-ray version (some materials may not appear on the DVD version)

Here’s a new release with much muchness… Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. This version, which actually takes place after the original story, is everything you’d expect from Tim Burton, which seems like a perfect fit for the bizarre world of Lewis Carroll’s creations.

But in addition to the film which has worldwide theatrical box office earnings approaching the $800 million mark, there’s a Wonderland of bonus features!

The bonus features are fun and impressive and, appropriately, far from typical. It’s almost an hour’s worth of content in a dozen wondrous featurettes, broken up into two categories: WONDERLAND CHARACTERS and MAKING WONDERLAND.

There’s no shortage of behind the scenes footage, so get used to green because much of the film was shot in front of green screens. I'm just mad about learning how films were made, and was quite pleased with the in-depth look into the film's wondrous production.

In addition to that wonderful footage, there are interviews with cast and members of the production team, looks at the some of the technology involved in the film’s creation and much more.

After seeing the film, I had a bunch of questions in my own mind. How did they get the Red Queen’s head so large, or her body so small is it? What’s up with the Mad Hatter’s eyes? Did Johnny Depp wear contacts or was it all computer generated? Did Johnny Depp actually do the Futterwacken? Every question I had was answered in the bonus material.

“Stunts of Wonderland” was interesting to me, because when I think of stunts I generally think of action scenes or fight scenes, but I was amazed how many stunts “Alice” was in right from the time she first fell down the rabbit hole. Hopping down from a hat or hopping into a pocket required as much work as the most well-choreographed fight scene.

On another note, as a huge music fan, I really enjoyed the segment about scoring the film with the great Hollywood composer Danny Elfman.

Hope I answered any questions you were wondering about with this wondrous release. All in all, unlike the rabbit hole, this Blu-ray disc did not let me down!
