CONFESSIONS OF A SHOPAHOLIC
DVD release date: June 23, 2009
Blu-ray version
Recently I decided to be kooky and check out a film made just for grownups! While I do love watching Disney DVDs, I decided to take a break for Miley and Selena and Demi and the Jonas’ guys and hand drawn characters and watch something made for us teenovers. (You know, those of us past our teens.)
CONFESSIONS OF A SHOPAHOLIC is the first Touchstone release that I am writing about here on the ol’ Clubhouse. I didn’t know what to expect but it looked like a decent enough film, and I was right. I don’t know if the subject matter would appeal to the whole family, but there is nothing in it that is not suitable for the family. In other words, it is not intended for the younger audience but it is certainly decent family fare. The film turned out to be a pleasant surprise!
Just as pleasant are the BONUS FEATURES:
What’s a Disney DVD without MUSIC VIDEOS? Well, if you like music videos, you’re in luck, there are three on here!
A lot of times, DELETED SCENES are just blah. Is that a technical Hollywood term? That’s not the case here. All of these scenes, which run just over six minutes total, have a certain charm. One scene, ZEBRA PRINT PANTS really stands out. It’s about three and a half minutes, and is a very funny piece about what happens when Rebecca gets a job in a department store! This is a great deleted scene and holds up on its own as if it were a short subject! It has a complete beginning, middle and end. I wonder why movies don’t do short subjects for live action films. All the Pixar films have shorts before them. Well, consider this a live action short because it’s clever and fun.
The BLOOPERS OF A SHOPAHOLIC are about two minutes long, and are presented in the typical Disney blooper formula on DVDs: Super quick short little clips with some background music added. This is a pretty good selection. Unlike other Disney DVDs, you don’t have to struggle to figure out what the blooper is.
BEHIND THE FASHIONS is a collection of bonus features, each no longer than three minutes. I’m surprised there is no Play All feature with this. I’m a big fan of bonus features with lots of behind the scenes footage and insight into the movie magic, but although there are six mini featurettes, none were too exciting for me. The one I was looking forward to most was to see how they had the mannequins come to life. The featurette did show the real people who portrayed the mannequins but never got into the next step, the digital magic.
So there’s my comments on Confessions of a Shopaholic, and you didn’t even have to use a credit card.
