MORNING LIGHT
DVD release date: June 16, 2009
Blu-ray version
In the new DVD and Blu-Ray, Morning Light, you can set sail on a new true-life documentary adventure surrounding the remarkable Transpac. The Transpac is a grueling six month competition spanning 2,300 miles between Los Angeles and Honolulu.
Roy Disney was the Executive Producer of the film, and his own longtime knowledge, passion and Transpac experience is evident throughout, as he offers insight to viewers and more than great advice to the team members. The film is Roy Disney in his element and it shows beautifully in the final film.
Usually a team is comprised of experienced sailors, but what makes the Morning Light team so unique is these sailors lack the experience, giving the viewer to learn along with the crew about the amazing knowledge needed to have a safe journey on the often dangerous trek.
Morning Light covers all aspects of the competition, from the initial elimination of applicants right through the finish line. It’s truly thought-provoking, inspiring and outstanding.
There are two exceptional bonus features to sea:
STORIES FROM THE SEA WITH JASON EARLES has a bit of a misleading title. I expected the Hannah Montana star to tell various stories of the ocean with stock footage, but this is far from that. This actually dives in deeper into all that went into the making of the film. This half hour featurette covers much more than was in the film, including one crew member that we never got to see–nautical cameraman Rick Deppe. The film was so well done, it’s easy to watch without realizing that SOMEBODY has to be onboard to film the adventure, and it must be someone with a great knowledge of the sea.
ESPN SPECIAL – MORNING LIGHT: MAKING THE CUT is a forty two minute program which is a standalone program of its own documenting the Morning Light story of selecting a suitable crew in greater detail than the film.
The combination of the main movie and the bonus features are combined beautifully to give an overall story of a fascinating completion to sailors and land lovers alike, so get the DVD and see the Light!
