CORY IN THE HOUSE: NEWT & IMPROVED EDITION
DVD release date: May 27, 2008
W hat’s Newt with this “Cory in the House” DVD? A fantastic bonus feature for one thing, but I’ll get back to that in a minute.
The four episodes on this DVD are:
- The Presidential Seal
- Through the Roof
- Lip Service
- Peace, Love & Misunderstanding
The theme of this DVD is “Newt,” the character portrayed by Disney Channel heartthrob Jason Dolley who also starred in “Minutemen,” so you get your fair share of him in three episodes. While this isn’t a criticism, it certainly is an unusual observation that Jason Dolley does not appear in the “Peace, Love &
Misunderstanding” episode since he was busy filming “Minutemen” at that time. It doesn’t make the DVD less enjoyable but it does seem a bit odd for the theming of this DVD.
“Cory in the House” is corny, slapstick and obviously aimed toward a teen audience, but that doesn’t make it unenjoyable. My son loves it and I don’t mind when it’s on. I’ll even admit that it was pleasant watching the episodes on this DVD and it even made me giggle. In “Through the Roof” when Cory ends up getting thrust through the ceiling, sure it’s tacky, but you can’t help but giggle when you see his legs dangling below.
If you’re a fan of “Cory in the House,” this is one DVD you’ll want for sure because there’s a bonus feature which you don’t see on the Disney Channel. Ironically, Jason Dolley wasn’t in this
featurette other than a short message from the set of “Minutemen.” What you do get, however, is nearly thirteen minutes of behind the scenes footage and it goes through many stages in the process of creating an episode of “Cory in the House.” From the initial writers meetings to the table readings right up to the taping and final curtain call, there’s a lot packed into this feature that fans won’t want to miss!
