Disney Resort Ambassadors - Janet Tanasugarn Janet Tanasugarn

Interview from 2008

Janet TanasugarnScott Wolf: What were you doing before you were Ambassador?

Janet Tanasugarn: Before I was Ambassador I was a tour guide in Guest Relations.

Did you enjoy that?

JT: Yeah, I did, it was a lot of fun. We got to meet a lot of people throughout the park. What's interesting is before I was a tour guide I worked in foods for about four years, but just being a tour guide opened the doors of Disneyland so to speak because you got to meet so many more people throughout the resort.

You were telling me you worked in foods in a land that doesn't exist anymore.

JT: Yes, when I hired in, this is a little bit dating myself, when I hired in it was still Bear Country, and then when Splash Mountain was completed they changed the name of the land to Critter Country as it's known today.

1996 Ambassador Janet TanasugarnWhat year were you Ambassador?

JT: I was Ambassador in 1996.

What kinds of things happened with the park the year you were Ambassador?

JT: The main emphasis of my Ambassador year was to promote the farewell tour of the Main Street Electrical Parade.

Did you go on the radio and everything to promote it?

JT: We did radio remotes from Disneyland... I say "we" because we were part of the second team of the Ambassador program, so I guess I should clarify that. We did radio interviews, television interviews, all up and down Southern California and the western market.

You said the "second team," meaning there was only Ambassador one team before you?

JT: There was only one team prior to us, so up until 1994 all the Ambassadors were solo Ambassadors and then starting in 1995, that's when the team concept began.

Do you have any favorite memories of being Ambassador?

JT: It's really hard to narrow it down. I just think the best memory of being an Ambassador is just being able to represent the resort and making so many more friends, so I can't really narrow down one specific moment.

What did you do after you were Ambassador?

JT: After I was Ambassador, what was interesting is the first few Ambassador teams stayed in their day to day roles so I was in Guest Relations and continued to be in Guest Relations until 1998.

So you you were still in Guest Relations while you were Ambassador?

JT: Right, since we had a team of four, each of us would still work in our regular departments and we would have scheduled events, however if something came up at the spur of the moment, because I was in guest relations, it was not too hard to pull me from my guest relations role and just make a quick change into my Ambassador costume.

What did you do after Guest Relations?

Soon after that I became an assistant in the Disneyland Resort expansion team and that's the team that worked on Disney's California Adventure.
